Aero 2 by Acustica Audio

Aero 2 is a guitar amp environment with 251 emulations of real pedals, amplifiers and cabinets, plus built-in EQ and effects.

It runs on Acustica's NOVA Instrument engine and costs €189 (about $214.61).

Best for: Guitars, Sound Design. Genres: Rock & Indie, Metal, Pop.

Keywords: electric guitar, sound design, synths, mixing, hardware emulation.

What it does

Aero 2 is Acustica Audio's guitar amplification suite: sampled pedals, amps and cabinets chained in one plugin. The developer wants it to behave as "a complete signal chain" rather than a set of separate processors.

It works at 44.1 to 96 kHz. Owners of the original Aero get version 2 free, and crossgrades are offered to owners of NOVA-family plugins and Acustica synths. The product page does not mention a demo.

When to use it

Aero 2 is closest in scope to the big modular rigs among the rated amp plugins, Helix Stadium Native and AmpliTube 5 MAX, which have many amps and effects; it has 251 sampled models. Its sound comes from Acustica's own sampling of hardware rather than component modeling or the captures of real gear that TONEX MAX and Neural Amp Modeler are built around. It is far broader than the Neural DSP Archetype titles (Nolly X, Gojira X, Cory Wong X), which each give one artist's rig with a few amps and a tight, curated feature set. It suits players who already use Acustica plugins and want that analog response, and people who like to reamp DI tracks with many options. It is pricier than most of these, and it is a newer, less tested platform.
