What it does

DeBleed:Drums is Acon Digital's AI-based spill remover for close drum mics. Rather than opening and closing like a gate, it separates the drum you want from the rest of the kit, in real time.

Neural network: trained on real drum recordings to isolate hits while keeping the kit's natural resonance and ghost notes.
Two main controls: Sensitivity for detection and Trigger Threshold for how much spill is removed.
Real time: no offline processing; all parameters can be automated.
Workflow: resizable interface and a preset manager.

It's also part of Acon's Drum Production Suite.

When to use it

DeBleed:Drums works differently from every other rated gate. Pro-G, Gate: Drums and even smart:gate still let spill through while the gate is open; DeBleed removes spill during the hit too, so it can clean mics where a gate would sound choppy.

Best for: kick and snare close mics with heavy spill, live recordings, and even building 'fake' spot mics from overheads.
Genres: rock, metal, pop, jazz and any live-drum recording.
Look elsewhere if: you need gating for non-drum sources, precise envelope control, or kit-wide phase alignment (Oxford Drum Gate 2).

What producers say

Reviews are very positive, with a few limits noted.

Sound On Sound (Matt Houghton, Sept 2025) called it "a revelation", very effective on kick and snare and better than some smart gates, but noted occasional misdetection on busy passages, no learn function, and limited release control.
Production Expert (Luke Goddard, May 2025) said it removes baked-in spill that gates and filters can't, though Sensitivity and Trigger Threshold need careful balancing.
Production Expert's 2026 guide placed it second among the best gates and de-noisers.
