What it does

Opticom XLA-3 models ACME Audio's tube opto compressor, which the developer describes as having "glorious tube sounds and opto-electric vibe." Plugin Alliance's version was developed with Brainworx and levels in the style of an LA-2A while adding even-harmonic coloration.

Version 1.11.1 (January 2026). A 14-day trial is available, and it is included in the CORE and PRO subscriptions.

When to use it

Opticom XLA-3 sits close to the LA-2A style of the Teletronix LA-2A Leveler Collection and Waves CLA-2A, the classic opto levelers, which are smooth and fairly clean. Compared with them it adds more tube color, three response settings and an Amp Mode that uses the tube stage on its own, so it can go from gentle warming to heavy, driven compression. The mix knob makes parallel use easy, which the hardware-style LA-2A models lack. For a clean, precise compressor with full attack and release control, Pro-C 3 is the better tool; Opticom is the pick when you want character first.

What producers say

Future Music rated the plugin among the best tube-color compressors it had tried.
