Objeq Delay 2 by Applied Acoustics Systems

Objeq Delay 2 is a delay from AAS that runs echoes through a morphable acoustic filter based on plates, beams, drumheads and strings.

It has four delay layouts and two modulators, and costs $99.

Best for: Guitars, Keys & Synths, Vocals, Sound Design. Genres: Electronic & EDM, Ambient & Cinematic.

Keywords: plate, sound design, strings, drums, electric guitar, metallic, multi-tap, percussion, synths, cinematic, classic, MIDI-controllable, mixing, physical modelling, spacious, spectral, tempo-synced, utility, vocals.

What it does

Objeq Delay 2 puts AAS's physically modeled acoustic resonators inside a multi-tap delay, so the repeats take on the colour of struck plates, bars, drumheads or strings. The developer describes the aim as merging "classic delay techniques with acoustic resonance."

The current version is 2.0.0. It has a 15-day fully working trial and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

When to use it

Objeq Delay 2 is narrower than EchoBoy and Timeless 3, broad delay toolkits with many styles and deep modulation, and Eventide UltraTap, a multi-tap delay built for rhythmic and textural taps. Its point is the resonant acoustic filter, which turns repeats metallic, woody or drum-like and can make a plain loop sound like it is played on an object. The dynamics-based modulators let the resonance follow the input, which suits drums and percussive parts. It is a sound design delay rather than an everyday tape or digital echo, and it costs about half as much as EchoBoy.

What producers say

Early coverage of version 2 is very positive; the reservations are about the pitch follower and fixed signal flow.
